News Analysis: SAP and SuccessFactors Unveil Early Roadmap for HCM

This morning, SAP and SuccessFactors, an SAP company, issued a press release in which their unified Human Capital Management (HCM) product roadmap was unveiled.  The primary message is that SAP has adopted a hybrid strategy for HCM:  the SuccessFactors portfolio for Cloud HCM, and the current SAP ERP Human Capital Management portfolio for on premise. Details on this and other facets of the announcement are discussed below:

Content marketing re-emerges as a hot topic and trend in improving engagement with existing customers and prospects.  Marketers can improve the likelihood of engagement through the creation and sharing of relevant information.  Typical delivery formats include advertorials, emails, branded websites, white papers, webinars, podcasts, and field marketing events.  Content marketers believe that educating a customers with high quality information will improve the likelihood of a sale due to brand association with expertise and thought leadership.  Content marketing is a powerful and effective approach when done well.

Mischaracterization of Multitenancy in an SAP-sponsored Blog Post

In an SAP-sponsored post on ZDnet, SAP employee Eric Lai attempts to identify "four big problems" with multitenancy in cloud applications. At the top of the post, ZDnet does make the disclaimer, "Eric's views are his alone and do not necessarily represent those of SAP." Still, I find it puzzling that Lai's views appear to be closer to Larry Ellison's than those of his employer, SAP.

I've been through several "eras of change" at work. I witnessed the shift from mainframes to client server applications. I watched as email became the core communication tool for business, and saw it challenged by instant messaging, blogs, wikis and now social networks as each was heralded as "the new way to work." I've seen people change from hoarding information as power to openly sharing in order to help their colleagues. But during my two decades in technology, I've never experienced so many profound changes occurring all at the same time as what we're part of right now.

The first Mobile Enterprise Business Error (Unintended) involved Banco Santander in Spain http://www.constellationrg.com/blog/2012/01/mobile-enterprise-business-errors-unintended-1-banco-santander-illustrating-how).  The second comes from an executive of a company asked to help prevent what was about to happen.  This it involved a bank which realized, just in time, that what it wished to do with its proposed iOS app would give Apple unintended access to the bank's private client customer list.

This unidentified bank possesses a successful private client business.  Wishing to stay relevant and attractive it decided to build a dedicated iOS app for its private client customers to access their banking facilities from use on iPhones and/or iPads.  The concept was simple.  The bank would:
